A lounge with room for conversation, discovery and play. Created for House Beautiful Whole Home 2025 in Austin, the installation brings lounge furnishings and collectible design together, including the debut of the Carrom Table.

The Room Between Journeys is a screen-free lounge designed by Rydhima Brar of R/terior Studio for the House Beautiful showcase house in Austin, the magazine’s annual showcase of design and craft.
The room was conceived as a pause between destinations: a place to set down the phone, share a pot of tea, and gather around a game table. Its palette, objects, and layout draw on travel and ritual, creating a lounge that invites people to stay, talk, and play together.
At its center is the Brar Carrom Table, which made its debut here. Carrom, the tabletop game of flicks and ricochets, becomes the room’s heart and a reminder that the best-designed spaces bring people together, not just to look.
For R/terior Studio, the project reflects its approach to Culturally Intelligent Design™: interiors shaped by story, heritage, and the way people actually live.
